Crocodile River Camp

South Luangwa, Zambia

Wilderness wanderings

Crocodile River Camp skirts an old river bank lined with majestic ebony trees and overlooks a dry ox-bow lagoon, offering panoramic views of game frequenting these grazing grounds.

Being further from the Luangwa River crossing than its sister camp (Chikoko Tree Camp) a vehicle is based here from July onwards, allowing access to a range of more distant walking areas and facilitates early morning departures or late arrivals if required. Accommodation is in three simple, grass-walled chalets which allows for a maximum of just six guests. The chalets have en suite flush toilets, showers and hot water provided upon request. The camps are manned by an experienced walking guide, an armed scout, a chef and general camp staff. All luggage and supplies are transported by porters, enabling you to simply relax and enjoy your walking safari.

The area is known as a hotspot for eland, roan, kudu, elephant, giraffe, wild dog, lion, warthog, hippo, crocodile and more. Leopard sightings are also common. Experiencing this wilderness on foot, the minutiae of the bush comes to the fore: the smells; the essence of the macro world and a sense of timelessness. It is the realness of the experience that make walking safaris unforgettable.
