Chikoko Tree Camp

South Luangwa, Zambia

In Livingstone's footsteps

Sitting near David Livingstone’s river crossing, ‘Perekani’, Chikoko Tree Camp has real heritage. It was also the first walking camp site in the Luangwa chosen by the legendary Norman Carr, who was way ahead of his time and pioneered conservation based tourism when track-and-hunt was the norm during.

The camp accommodates just 6 people in 3 simple, grass-walled chalets with en suite flush toilets and showers. The chalets are raised to tree canopy level, providing a shady and comfortable vantage point from which to enjoy the magnificent view of the plains and animal activities along the seasonal Chikoko Channel in. The camp is manned by a full team of experienced staff and the food is exceptional. Unlike many mobile safari outfits, Chikoko Trails offers plenty of fresh produce.

With no roads or vehicles, a stay at Chikoko Tree Camp is like a journey back in time. This is the Africa that the first explorers saw.
