Tortilis Camp

Amboseli, Kenya

Elephants of Kilimanjaro

Arriving at the award-winning eco-tourism Tortilis Camp in Amboseli National Park, one cannot help but appreciate the contrast and enormity of Africa. Dwarfed by the majestic snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tortilis camp nestles in a verdant Acacia grove.  Named after the local Acacia tortilis (Umbrella tree), the camp is set in one of Amboseli’s few remaining areas of unspoilt woodland.

Accommodation is under canvas, but in style – large comfortable tents with king size beds, en-suite facilities and a hot cup of tea at your bedside when you wake up. There is a central bar, dining room and a lounge to relax in and gaze at the awe-inspiring view of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro. Fresh herbs and vegetables are grown in camp and homemade pasta, Tortilis’ speciality, is carefully prepared by the chef, trained by the owner’s mother in good Italian home cooking.

Enjoy game viewing in open land rovers to see Amboseli’s spectacular elephants as well as the herds of plains game. Alternatively you can step out of the camp with a Masai guide for a gamewalk outside the park, or refresh yourself in the swimming pool on hot afternoons.
