Sosian, the Samburu word for the wild date palm, combines the tame with the wild, ideal for those looking for a unique and intimate bush experience.
The 24,000-acre private, working ranch sits on the Laikipia Plateau, an area historically known for its wildlife and ranching traditions, 80kms west of Mt Kenya. It offers pure wilderness, with more than 250 species of bird and an abundance of game species with four of the big five, plus rare species such as wild dog, Jackson’s hartebeest and Grevy’s zebra.
Guests are accommodated in an elegant 1940’s farmhouse that has been beautifully renovated. The lodge sleeps 14 people with more space for children if needed. All the rooms/cottages are en suite with their own private verandas. There is also a larger and more private honeymoon cottage, known as the Italian Cottage, built by Italian artisans post war. Sosian offers a swimming pool, tennis court and organic vegetable garden and is well known for its delicious home cooking, using fresh ingredients from the garden.
Sosian offers walking safaris, horse riding around the ranch, day and night game drives, camel safaris, and the chance to involve yourself in the daily life of the ranch. Equally you might choose to relax by the large swimming pool, play croquet or just admire the stunning scenery of the Laikipia and the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya on the horizon. Another highlight for many guests is the walk up to the 12 meter high waterfalls on the Ewaso Narok River, a stunning place to picnic and swim.
