Somalisa Expeditions is set in the heart of Hwange National Park, known as the land of the giants for its big elephant herds. Nestled under a grove of acacias along the edge of a seasonal flood plain, it puts you in the heart of this magnificent, wildlife-rich haven.
The six Serengeti style tents are spacious and comfortable, decorated in cool grey tones with rich accent fabrics and elegantly draped beds. Each has a private en suite bathroom complete with flush toilet, running water and a semi-outdoor shower. The main area includes a lounge and dining area on raised decking which overlooks a small pool from which elephants often drink. Just beyond a nearby waterhole is frequently used as a ‘mud-bath’ and drinking spot by a variety of species. The interactions observed are fascinating, especially in the dry season when wildlife is concentrated around the ever-depleting water supply, and the up-close encounters and photographic opportunities are unparalleled.
Activities include guided walks and game drives as well as game viewing and photography from hides. All are lead by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you. Wildlife sightings include elephant, kudu, sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard and hyena.
