Shakti Prana

Kumaon Region, India

Where life slows down

Perched high in the remote Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Shakti Prana (meaning breath in Sanskrit) is the reincarnation of its award-winning luxurious mountain outpost, 360 Leti, which was dismantled stone by stone, slate by slate, transported and reassembled in a less-populated region across several mountain peaks.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of snow-capped peaks including Nanda Devi and the Panchachuli range, Shakti Prana blends indigenous craftsmanship with modern design. Accessible only after a scenic mountain drive and a gentle walk along forest paths, Shakti Prana offers an extraordinary sense of arrival that prepares you for an immersive journey into nature, culture and tranquillity.

The lodge comprises seven beautifully crafted stone, glass and timber cabins, including a generous two-bedroom suite, each with soaring windows framing uninterrupted mountain panoramas and a private verandah to savour sunrise in silence. Interiors are warm and refined with open fires, cosy wood stoves, plush handcrafted textiles and luxurious ensuites clad in natural materials. A central lodge houses elegant living spaces and relaxed dining areas where organic meals — from regional Indian specialities to international fare — are served with produce from the onsite herb and vegetable gardens, all complemented by thoughtful service that feels personal yet unobtrusive.

Days at Prana unfold gently, guided by the rhythms of the mountains. Walk with expert guides through rhododendron forests, across meadows and into high ridges; practise yoga or meditation on elevated platforms with panoramic views; enjoy contemplative moments in the sauna perched on a cliff edge; or visit nearby hamlets to meet local villagers. Evenings invite firepit gatherings under a blanket of stars, while the serene environment encourages deep rest and reflection far from the bustle of everyday life.

From Prana, it is possible to walk on to Panchachuli, a charming guest house with three blackened-wood and thatch-barn rooms, some hours drive away. Its is a small but perfectly formed retreat in the most breathtaking position imaginable.

Shakti Prana’s allure lies in its unique blend of remote wilderness, elevated design and soulful hospitality. This is a place to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect — with the land, with local culture, and with yourself — making it an unforgettable Himalayan retreat for small groups or discerning travellers seeking both adventure and stillness.
