Eclectic Essaouira
Dating back to the 18th Century, Salut Maroc is a historic riad in the heart of Essaouira’s ancient Medina, just a stone’s throw away from the coast. A former merchant’s house and later a consulate building, this unique boutique hotel has character and charm by the bucket load, as well as magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and the historic ramparts of the old Medina.
Salut Maroc is famous for its 11 stylish rooms, each of which is beautifully decorated with a fusion of Islamic patterns, vibrant colours and an eclectic mix of contemporary and antique furnishings. The restaurant sits on a breezy roof terrace complete with ocean views, and menus feature locally caught fish, meats barbecued on wood, big bowl salads and Moroccan specialties. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of champagne or cocktails as the sun sets over the water. Those in need of a little pampering will enjoy the hotel’s beautifully tiled hamman, where you can enjoy a traditional Moroccan scrub and massage by lantern light.
Essaouira is well known for its traditional fishing culture, bohemian artists and laid-back atmosphere. It is a lovely place to relax, watch the fishermen fix their nets, wander through the spice-scented lanes medina and browse the many art galleries and boutiques.
Whether you are hiding away to relax, busy sightseeing or socialising and sharing drinks with fellow guests, Salut Maroc is an excellent base from which to explore this charming coastal town. Its décor and style certainly make an impression!
