Rincon del Socorro

Ibera Wetlands, Argentina

Where the wild things are ....

Estancia Rincón del Socorro is in the remote Esteros del Iberá, in the Corrientes province of northeast Argentina. The nearest town is Mercedes (65km away); the provincial capital, Corrientes, is 3.5 hours (330km) away.

Rincón del Socorro is the ideal base for all this because it’s not just an exclusive retreat, it’s also the chance to participate in Douglas Tompkins’ ambitious conservation project led by The Conservation Land Trust which is working to create the largest national park in Argentina, and restore extinct populations of giant anteaters, pampas deer and jaguars. Immaculate and strikingly stylish, the 9 rooms in sepia tones preserve the original feel of the 1896 estancia, and give guests an intense contact with nature. Add tasty organic food and great hospitality and this is one of the most relaxing and interesting spots in Argentina.

Most activities are included as part of your stay at Rincón del Socorro. Enjoy guided bird-watching trips, explore the landscape and wildlife from a different perspective, by horseback or go out by Land Rover for a night safari to view the nocturnal wildlife. For an additional cost there is also extraordinarily good fly-fishing available at their sister estancia. You can also watch real gauchos at work, rounding up cattle at a nearby estancia—definitely a quintessential part of rural life in this part of the country.

Plunge into another world at this luxury eco-estancia located in a spectacular nature reserve covering the vast un-spoilt wetlands of northeast Argentina.
