Adventurous riverside camp
Old Mondoro Bush Camp is remotely located well into the Lower Zambezi National Park. It is nestled among giant Winterthorn trees on the banks of the Zambezi and overlooks a maze of scenic channels and islands. With accommodation for only 8 guests, this bush camp affords a very personal and intimate safari experience.
The concept of Old Mondoro is simple – to provide guests with an authentic remote safari that concentrates on the bush and wildlife experience – where the call of hyena replaces the hum of a generator, where harsh electric light is replaced by the soft glow of a lantern, where some of the best guides in Africa will help guests experience a closer look at the natural world.
Accommodation includes four rustic yet comfortable, open style canvas and reed rooms each with its own en-suite bathroom. Strung out along a hippo-friendly channel off the Zambezi, they enjoy great views and small, private decks from which to enjoy them. The camp has an open and adventurous feel and yet provides a comfortable retreat after a day game viewing in the bush, where emphasis is placed on non-motorized safari activities. The area surrounding the camp is ideal for walking and the park offers excellent elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and serval sightings. There are some excellent walking areas right out of Camp and this is unquestionably the best area in the Lower Zambezi to explore on foot. Also on offer at Old Mondoro are game drives (day & night), canoeing and game viewing by motor boat. Tasty meals are served fireside or in the open-sided thatched dining room, and star-gazing in this remote spot makes a perfect pastime.
The entire experience is unpretentious and uncomplicated and not for those seeking superfluous creature comforts. Instead, a unique and authentic safari is delivered with finesse, giving guests the best bush experience possible.
