Tea Trails bungalows are located some 4,000 feet above sea level in the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea growing country, an area known as the Dickoya Region in the Southern Highlands.
Tea Trails comprises of four classic colonial bungalows built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj. Each bungalow is different combining both classical and contemporary styles. The effect is quintessentially luxurious and colonial; a stroll back in time but entirely resplendent in modern amenities.
Norwood Bungalow, originally built in 1890 and rebuilt in 1940, sits at the eastern end of the Bogawantalawa valley, high-up above Castlereagh Lake. It is set in a beautiful garden with towering bamboo plants, manicured croquet lawns and a stunning pool. Like all the Tea Trails bungalows, Norwood is intimate with only five large suites. The interior décor is comfortable and airy whilst retaining a traditional feel with unique pieces of colonial architecture.
The Tea Experience with a resident tea planter, will show you first hand the age-old tea making process. Follow the trails of the planters of old Ceylon, watch tea pluckers pick as they select the leaves and visit the factory where the all-important conversion to “made” black tea happens. In addition you can enjoy scenic walks and hikes across the varied landscapes filled with exotic fauna and abundant birdlife. For the more energetic, discover Bogawantalawa Valley by mountain bike.
