Mbamba Camp

Okavango Delta - Botswana

Remote luxury in the Delta

Mbamba means ‘hello’ in Botswana’s Bukakhwe San Bushman dialect — a fitting name for this warm and welcoming new camp in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Part of the Uncharted Africa portfolio, Mbamba Camp joins Duke’s Camp and Duke’s East in the game-rich NG12 concession, where the Okavango River begins to fan out into the world’s largest inland delta. This remote, watery wilderness is a mosaic of floodplains, lagoons, open savannah, and palm-studded islands — a setting that supports exceptional concentrations of wildlife. Lions, wild dogs, and leopard move through regularly, while birders will appreciate the presence of Pel’s fishing owl, wattled cranes, and a host of wetland species.

Designed in the classic East African style with a light touch, Mbamba offers just twelve spacious canvas tents, each elevated on timber decks beneath leadwood trees and cooled by Delta breezes and air conditioning. Four-poster beds, vintage touches, and woven rugs bring character, while en suite bathrooms and private verandas provide comfort and privacy between game drives. The camp’s shared areas include a central lounge and bar, two smaller relaxation areas, a plunge pool, and a fire pit for evening gatherings. Activities vary with the seasons — from mokoro and boating excursions when water levels are high, to game drives, bush walks and birding throughout the year. Scenic helicopter flights are also available for those seeking a broader perspective on this wild and little-known corner of the Delta.
