Magashi

Akagera National Park, Rwanda

Where diversity and density of species meet

Rwanda is internationally known for its endangered mountain gorillas, but there is so much more to this country. Renowned as one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions with a huge variety of species crammed into its small area, Magashi is your exquisite base camp in a part of the country that is rarely explored by most international travellers.

Magashi is situated in the productive and phenomenally diverse north-eastern corner of Akagera National Park, which comprises some of the most scenic big-game savannah in East Africa.

Established in partnership with the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks, the camp’s purpose is to help conserve Rwanda’s last protected savannah ecosystem, where species like black rhino and the rare and elusive shoebill stork remain. No other camp can be found in this vast expanse of beautiful wilderness creating a unique sense of seclusion, comfort, privacy and space.

Six spacious and elegantly designed tents offer uninterrupted views over Lake Rwanyakazinga, while Magashi’s main area comprises a luxurious lounge, dining and bar area, pool and a large viewing deck with a fire pit. Interiors pay homage to traditional Rwandan culture giving Magashi a real sense of place amidst the surrounding wilderness.

On expertly guided game drives, nature walks and boating trips you can expect to encounter prolific plains game such as waterbuck, impala, eland and rarer species such as the sitatunga antelope, in addition to pods of hippos, large crocodiles, bull elephant, leopard, lion and the extensive birdlife native to the region.

At Magashi Camp, experience the tranquil beauty of Akagera National Park, a pristine sanctuary perfect for a Big Five safari after a gorilla trek.
