Glide along the water channels and lagoons on mokoro at Jacana Camp

Jacana Camp

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Classic island living

The Okavango Delta is rightly considered one of the most incredible wilderness sanctuaries in Africa. It is the largest inland delta system in the world, an area filled with water channels, lagoons and islands. Jacana Camp is situated on a small island in the beautiful north western reaches of the Okavango Delta.

Accommodation is in five Meru-style en-suite tents built on raised wooden decks which offer panoramic views of the Okavango Delta. The main dining area is on an elevated platform between two magnificent sycamore trees, and surrounded by dense wild date palms. Downstairs, there is a cozy lounge with an area for an open fire under the stars and a plunge pool for cooling off in the midday sun.

Jacana is located in one of the most densely populated wetland areas for sitatunga and red lechwe. All the big animals can be found regularly in the area including elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo. Birdlife is also abundant and enthusiasts can spot Pel’s fishing owl as well as African and lesser jacanas and a host of other Okavango species. Activities include mokoro trips throughout the year and game drives during September to May when the flood waters have receded. There are also two platform hides within the Jao Concession.

A remote location and large concentrations of game make this a perfect safari experience.
