Huab Under Canvas is an exclusive, semi-mobile camp designed specifically to provide an authentic safari experience in the wilds of Namibia without ever compromising on comfort. Located in a core desert adapted black rhino area in the Huab Conservancy in Damaraland, it is in the heart of the wildlife action but nestled secretively in a grove of mopane trees on a pretty river tributary.
The camp is booked on a private–use basis so you will never share it, heightening your sense of space and solitude. Each tent is 4m x 3m x 2.5m high, raised on a mobile platform and equipped with standard height camp beds, solar lighting and storage for clothing and other belongings. Each has the necessary infrastructure for bucket showers, washbasins and en-suite flush toilets. Most importantly, it carries arguably the lowest environmental footprint of any camp in Namibia.
Dining takes place in a communal mess tents and the catering is of an impressive standard. Even in dry, desolate areas camp chefs prepare their own unique specialties using fresh local produce wherever possible. Good food and wine are an important part of the overall experience.
Activities from the camp include guided bush walks, scenic game drives and exploratory journeys along the less crowded upper region of the Huab River in search of desert adapted elephants (presence dependent on environmental conditions). The real highlight comes with tracking desert adapted rhino in an area that has the highest tracking success rate in north western Namibia.
