River Camp Mara

Maasai Mara, Kenya

Eight Tents. One Wild Corner of the Mara.

Set along the Njageteck River in the Mara North Conservancy, Hemingways River Camp Mara occupies one of the Greater Maasai Mara’s most coveted and wildlife-rich corners. Founded by Richard Roberts, a third-generation conservationist, and his wife Liz, the camp was built on an enduring reverence for this land — a legacy that has seamlessly continued under the Hemingways Collection. With exclusive access to a private conservancy stretching across the northern Mara, guests encounter the full drama of East African wildlife with rare seclusion and without the crowds.

The camp’s canvas aesthetic is deliberately understated, allowing the landscape to take centre stage. Tents sit quietly within the bush, each designed to blur the boundary between inside and out. Warm textures, natural materials, and generous verandas opening to the sounds of the river and savannah beyond give the camp its unhurried, deeply personal character. From your tent, you may watch elephants making their way to the springs or fall asleep to the distant call of lions.

Luxury Tents offer the classic safari experience in spacious, elegantly appointed canvas surroundings. For families or small groups, a Family Suite connects two en-suite bedrooms through a shared lounge, while the Private Suite provides a two-bedroom retreat with its own veranda and dedicated staff.

Each day unfolds at your own pace. Expert guides lead private game drives through big cat territory and into the path of the Great Migration, while guided nature walks reveal the finer details of the ecosystem at ground level. As evening approaches, sundowners in the bush give way to dinners beneath an infinite sky, and stories shared by the fire long into the night.
