Serengeti Savannah
Ehlane Plains Camp has been established in the far eastern plains of the Serengeti, a remote and wildlife-filled pocket of the savannah. ‘Ehlane’ is a Zulu word which translates to ‘wilderness’ and this is reflected in the camp’s wild location, which has only recently become accessible.
The camp offers eight canvas tents, designed to merge seamlessly with the eco-system with clear views of the surrounding bush in every direction. All enjoy en suite bathrooms, large lounge areas with comfortable couches and private decks, while four poster beds, beautiful upholstery fabrics and contemporary furniture give a rich, luxurious feel. Family tents provide interconnected space for up to five guests and two tents have been designed as ‘star domes’. This innovative concept provides an open rooftop and large cushions on which to recline and fall asleep beneath a natural planetarium. The African sky glows with the moon, countless stars and flickering planets, completely unspoilt by any light pollution.
This area of the Serengeti teems with lions, cheetahs, hyenas and leopards, as well as elephants, giraffes and plains game. Experienced guides will interpret the ecosystem, sharing their expert knowledge with passion and pride. Guided walking safaris will see you exploring the bush at ground level, learning the intricacies of the environment, while hot air balloon safaris are a wonderfully romantic way to gain a birds eye view of the landscape.
