Elegance in the Sahara
Dar Ahlam Dune Camp is an elegant desert camp set in the pristine dunes of Iriki approximately five hours from the city of Ouarzazate. It is reached by four-wheel drive, passing craggy outcrops, deep valleys, mirages of glittering water and small caravans of nomads resting under thorn trees with their camels, and then you reach the vast, desolately beautiful expanse of the Sahara desert.
The camp comprises just five tents decorated in a soothing palette of neutral colours and stylishly furnished in Berber rugs, wrought-iron lanterns and a double bed piled with cushions. Each is perfectly private and spacious with its own living room, exterior terrace and private toilet. Traditional dishes of Harira, a spicy lentil soup, and Berber tagine are served by candlelight under the stars, accompanied by soft musical entertainment, followed by traditional storytelling round an open fire.
Before retiring to bed, sit on your terrace or lie on the sand, allowing its harnessed warmth to soak through your skin as the night’s chill settles, and watch the shooting stars as you marvel at the vast enormity of the universe above you. As you drift off in your luxurious white bed, listen for the hoot of an eagle owl echoing over the miles and miles of desert engulfing you.
