Situated in the far north of the sub-continent, over 3500m up on the high plateau, Ladakh is often referred to as ‘Little Tibet’. Whilst Ladakh has long been on the map, with travellers staying in and around Leh, there has been little in the way of ‘luxury’ on offer…..until the opening of the Chamba Camp in Thiksey . Pitched at the base of Thiksey monastery, for a few months over festivals during Ladakh’s short summer, the camp is a unique commercial and spiritual partnership; your stay provides valuable income for the monastery while enjoying a privileged insight into Tibetan Buddhism and local culture.
Only an hour from Leh, the camp offers individually designed tents, with en-suite bathrooms, private decks, crisp linen and the services of your very own butler. Whilst in residence you will enjoy delicious family recipes and hear stories from specialists and guest travelogists over fire-lit evenings, whilst spending your days exploring this picturesque city, its monuments and monasteries and experiencing it’s centuries old oral literature, art forms, fairs and festivals.
