Overlooking a mirror-still reservoir and sitting amidst plantations and pine forests, Camellia Hills is a boutique hotel that encapsulates the peaceful tranquility of Sri Lanka’s tea country.
A modern interpretation of a tea planter’s bungalow, the hotel is contemporary in style but sympathetically designed to echo the heritage of the area. The five bedrooms, living and dining areas are located across a series of levels to maximize enjoyment of the panoramic vistas and a 10-metre infinity swimming pool in lush gardens is the perfect spot to soak up the idyllic setting. Dining can be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors with a cozy, fire-lit lounge for cooler evenings and a open-sided terrace taking full advantage of the valley vistas for warm summer nights.
During your stay you are free to wander the plantations on your own or join a guide to learn about the tea production process. You may wish to visit a local Hindu kovil, see the colonial-era Warleigh Church or take a day trip to the island’s highest town, Nuwara Eliya. A real highlight is a visit to the local wildlife research station where you can learn more about Sri Lanka’s elusive hill-dwelling leopards. The climate in the hills is perfect for walking and a hike up Adam’s Peak is highly rewarding.
