Kulala Desert Lodge is set on the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, a stunning 27,000-hectare expanse bordering Namibia’s iconic Sossusvlei. Designed to blend seamlessly into its arid surroundings, the lodge’s 23 kulalas – thatched canvas accommodations on raised wooden platforms – offer understated desert elegance with private decks and rooftop spaces where guests can sleep out beneath a canopy of stars.
Its prime location provides privileged access to Sossusvlei via a private entrance, allowing guests to reach the towering red dunes at sunrise before other visitors arrive. Daily activities include guided excursions to Deadvlei and Sossusvlei, scenic drives through ancient riverbeds, and interpretive walks where knowledgeable guides share insights into the desert’s delicate ecosystem. The reserve is also home to desert-adapted wildlife, including springbok, oryx, bat-eared foxes, and occasionally the elusive aardwolf.
The lodge’s central area features a pool, open-air dining space, and shaded lounge overlooking the expansive plains and rugged mountains beyond. Dining is relaxed and fresh, with most meals served al fresco to take full advantage of the sweeping views.
