Chula Island Camp is part of Tusk and Mane’s fly camp which is fully mobile, operating between two locations on the beautiful eastern section of the lower Zambezi river – Chula Island and Kutali.
Chula Island is located on the Katengahumba /Discovery Island, with the nearest airfield being Jeki. The island is like Jurassic Park, full of surprises with plenty of hidden lagoons and wetlands which give the camp its name – Chula means frog in the local language. The game is unbelievable and sightings of leopard, lion, hyena , buffalo herds and lots of elephant are common.
The camp accommodates just eight guests ensuring the experience is intimate and authentic, with the highest levels of service. The tents are simple, leaving a very light footprint, but offer everything that is necessary for complete comfort in the wild including frame beds with top quality linen, solar lighting and ensuite individual bathrooms (accessible without leaving the tent) complete with bucket showers, flushing toilets and washbasin with a mirror.
Communally you will find a well-stocked, refrigerated bar in the shade and a comfy seating area under canvas. Good, wholesome meals are shared around long tables and a crackling camp fire always draws people in as the conversation flows.
