Mwamba Bush Camp

South Luangwa, Zambia

Zambia's best place to hide

Mwamba Bush Camp is set on the banks of the Mwamba River, in a wonderfully remote and peaceful area of the South Luangwa. The camp is a three-hour bushwalk or 20-minute drive from its sister camp, Kaingo, and offers a more immersive bush camp experience.

The recently refurbished camp sits under huge evergreen ebony trees and enjoys shady views of the perennial waterholes, both of which have hides perched over them for fantastic wildlife viewing.  Mwamba features four woven bamboo thatch chalets, uniquely designed with soaring skylights allowing you to ‘sleep under the stars’.  Each chalet has a large outdoor ensuite bathroom with hot running showers. Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and bush-style dining under the shade of a huge ebony tree.

The game around Mwamba is excellent. You can view large herds of buffalo, zebra, eland and in particular Cookson’s wildebeest, the “Mwamba” lion pride and fantastic leopard sightings are also common due to the thick riverine bush.  Elephants use the Mwamba’s waterholes regularly and there is a family of elephants who visit the waterhole next to the honeymoon chalet to drink and mud themselves in the afternoons.

A small bush camp situated in the heart of the South Luangwa National Park, Mwamba – ‘heaven’ in our local language – also has two elevated starbeds and offers game drives, walking safaris and a magical bush sleepout.
