At Kaingo Camp, walk amongst ancient baobabs

Kaingo Camp

South Luangwa, Zambia

Camp of the leopard

Feel at home in the bush at Kaingo Camp. Kaingo, meaning ‘leopard’ in the local Nyanja language, is situated on the banks of the Luangwa River, at the confluence with the Mwamba and overlooks the water towards the Nsefu sector of the park within a prime area of the South Luangwa National Park.

The camp has a large, centrally located open-sided sitting room which includes a dining area, library and Kaingo’s renowned thousand year old leadwood bar.  The chalets are nestled discretely on the banks of the river and each one offers large fly-wired windows providing stunning river views. In addition to the indoor en suite bathroom, each chalet has a stunning outdoor bathtub with shady views of a pod of hippos.  Each chalet also has an individual deck built out over the river and provides a relaxing vantage point to view game that comes to the water to drink.

The varied terrain around camp includes the picturesque Fish Eagle lagoon, one of the largest ebony forests in the Park, and the spectacular Lion Plain bordered by the meandering Luangwa and Mwmaba Rivers.  Kaingo offers three game viewing activities a day which may include walking safaris, game drives or time spent at a hide, along with an incredible opportunity to sleep out on their Elephant Hide Star Bed – your private treehouse for the night.

Kaingo is a peaceful lodge in a prime position in the Luangwa valley.
