Estancia el Bordo de las Lanzas

Salta, Argentina

Four hundred years of history

Located in the General Guemes in the Province of Salta, Estancia El Bordo is one of the oldest estates in the country with property deeds dating as far back as 1609. The homestead of Estancia el Bordo de Las Lanzas is steeped in history with an important collection of art, artefacts and furniture dating back to the Jesuit Mission of Miraflores in Alto Peru.

The house has of course been updated with all modern conveniences and it is now a beautiful, peaceful place to relax. The decor remains traditional with dark antique furniture standing handsomely against white washed walls, deep burgundy fabrics and flag stone floors but its understated grandeur ensures it remains stylish and elegant. The garden is extensive with outdoor dining areas and a swimming pool for long, lazy afternoons while the cozy library and exquisite home cooked meals create an atmosphere of relaxed homeliness.

The Salta region is rich in tradition and craftsmanship and was a former battleground during the wars of independence. Staying at the Estancia allows guests to learn the history northern Argentina in detail, really get to know Salta’s countryside and share the authentic lifestyle of a working estancia. During your stay you are welcome to join the gauchos as they undertake their daily farm work, join cattle musters and ride the property’s Peruano Argentino de Paso horses – a Peruvian breed prized for its looks and great riding nature. You can also explore the countryside by bicycle or trekking on foot, visit the yacare-caiman reserve, enjoy birdwatching and handicraft tours or simply rest in the lodge with a good book and a glass of local red.

This is a working estancia that offers a relaxing and homely stay in beautiful setting whilst also providing an authentic glimpse into the everyday life of rural Argentina.
