Against the magnificent backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa, and overlooking the secluded Mfazimnyama Valley of the Spioenkop Game Reserve, lies Three Tree Hill Lodge at Spioenkop. This Eco‐friendly lodge places great emphasis on Responsible Tourism and offers spectacular scenery, locally grown farm‐style country food and superb hospitality.
This intimate, luxury lodge offers just 18 rooms, all designed to capture the essence of bygone colonial days with wood cladding, carefully selected furniture and sumptuous, hand embroidered‐linens. Each room has its own deck offering unsurpassed views of the game‐rich valley below and Spioenkop towering over the reserve. The main lodge has an open‐plan design, with four sets of large double doors leading onto the verandah resulting is a flowing space perfect for lounging in the heat of a summers afternoon or gathering around the open log fire in winter.
Meanwhile the viewing deck and swimming pool offer complete relaxation under the spreading canopy of an Acacia tree. The lodge is situated on 1,300ha of naturally rolling Drakensberg foothills so there is plenty of opportunity for walking, birding, mountain biking and horseriding. Game Walks with Rhino Tracking in the neighbouring Spioenkop Game Reserve can also be arranged with resident guides taking you far from the tourist trail and offering a real ‘off the beaten track’ adventure.
Three Tree Hill Lodge is a real sanctuary offering a peaceful retreat for any visitor to Kwa Zulu Natal. Close to the base of Van Reenens pass, the lodge is also the ideal half‐way stop between Johannesburg & Durban and the perfect base for exploring the major Anglo‐Boer War Battlefields in Kwa Zulu Natal.
