Luxurious Delta Camp
Duba Explorers Camp sits in the heart of the Okavango Delta habitat within a 77,000-acre private concession which typifies the region’s unique landscape. Built on a wooded island, overlooking a lagoon, and connected to the prolific wildlife area by an elaborate set of bridges, the area is the base of many famous wildlife documentaries by National Geographic filmmakers and founders of Great Plains Conservation, Dereck and Beverly Joubert. Here, a matrix of palm-dotted islands, flood plains and woodland hosts abundant wildlife and, being the only camp on the concession, you will enjoy rare sightings and exclusive encounters.
This intimate camp consists of just five romantic, expedition-style tents of light airy canvas on slightly raised decking, each with views of the surrounding floodplain. Each tent is stylishly furnished and designed by Dereck and Beverly, using their sensibilities of the ‘expedition’ and ‘exploring’, offering campaign writing desk and private verandah plus en-suite facilities consisting of flush loo, double vanities and indoor shower. The main, open-sided dining and lounge area offers a restful retreat for warm afternoons and candlelit dining, whilst the fire pit is a popular spot for an evening nightcap under the star lit African sky.
Activities here centre on the area’s phenomenal game with early morning and late afternoon game drives taken daily in an open 4×4 vehicles. Led by the camp’s expert guides you are likely to encounter elephant and hippo happily trudging through the swamps, large herds of red lechwe, greater kudu, hundreds of bird species including the rare wattled crane and Pel’s fishing owl, the elusive leopard and even the rare brown hyena. If water levels permit, you may also enjoy boat based activities which offer game viewing from a whole new perspective.
