Oozing with style and regal opulence, this 1923 property remains one of the premium retreats in Marrakech. Throughout time this hotel has proved popular with dignities, celebrities and well heeled travelers alike, most notably Sir Winston Churchill, who now has a suite named after him.
Recently returned to its former glory by Parisian designer Jacques Garcia this hotel is the epitome of modern luxury, yet retains plenty of its original heritage with hand-cut tiles, ornately carved plaster columns and hundreds of handmade lanterns.
Most rooms here offer a view of Koutoubia Mosque, the gardens or the Atlas Mountains and the suites are all individually decorated in their own distinctive style. The very English Churchill suite features a Chesterfield desk, distressed leather sofa and even Churchill’s hat. Meanwhile the Baldaquin suite is a vast expanse of soft, feminine white décor with romantic canopies and sumptuous linens over a king-sized bed.
La Mamounia has four restaurants, two of them (Le Français and L’Italien) boasting Michelin stars. Each has its own bar area and La Bar Marocain is expecially pleasant at night with its rooftop terrace offering the perfect view of the Atlas Mountains and dark, star-filled sky.
