Luxurious Tented Lodge
Kariega Settler’s Drift sits in a remote part of the Kariega Game Reserve, an internationally renowned malaria free “Big 5” private game reserve situated near Port Elizabeth. Family owned and managed, the gradual growth and development of the now 10,000 hectare reserve is one of the most accomplished conservation projects in the Eastern Cape to date and it offers a relaxed yet luxurious hideaway on South Africa’s beautiful Eastern Cape.
Sympathetically integrated into its environment, it features warm natural décor and offers stunning views of the Bushmans River valley. Gazing down from the deck overlooking the Bushman’s river drift, it feels as if time has stood still since the last feet to have touched this remote valley were those of the 1820 settlers as they guided their wagons across the river.
Each of the nine spacious tented suites boast over 100 m² of living space with an opulent bedroom and living area, full bathroom and the luxury of an indoor/outdoor shower. Every suite benefits from a private viewing deck – the perfect spot for relaxing in the afternoon and watching the resident game as it meanders by. The lodge itself offers a variety of areas for dining, socializing and relaxation including the atmospheric boma area, restaurant and bar while the wine cellar houses an impressive array of world-class wines. There are numerous decks and a beautiful pool area for relaxing whilst soaking up the warm African sun.
Kariega Private Game Reserve boasts 10,000 hectares of rich bushland, home to the Big 5 as well as hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and three species of eagle. Twice daily game drives will ensure some spectacular encounters while river cruises, fishing, canoeing and walking safaris are also available and come highly recommended.
