Kwandwe Ecca Lodge

Eastern Cape, South Africa

Malaria-free pristine private wilderness!

Nestled in the heart of South Africa’s pristine Eastern Cape province lies Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, flanking the Great Fish River which meanders through this malaria-free pristine private wilderness. It is renowned for understated luxury, exquisite scenery and the thousands of animals and wildlife that call the Reserve home. These include lion, black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant and cheetah.

The meaning of Kwandwe in Xhosa is “Place of the Blue Crane”, and the Reserve is home to a population of these rare, vulnerable birds (South Africa’s National Bird). The Reserve is also sanctuary to other threatened species including the Knysna woodpecker, Cape grysbok, black wildebeest, crowned eagle and black-footed cat.

Ecca Lodge is a contemporary styled lodge that is youthful, relaxed and modern in its style and attitude. Emblazoned with giant Warhol-like prints, retro light fittings and shades of olive, rust and burnt orange, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a funky cosmopolitan penthouse. That is until you step outside that one is exposed to the breathtaking views over an Acacia, Aloe and Spekboom-studded valley.

Activities include game drives, morning and night, walks and cultural visits to the local village and community.
