Just minutes from the village of Franschhoek and under an hour’s drive from Cape Town, Leeu Estates is a country house and boutique winery set among vineyards, gardens and fynbos in the scenic Franschhoek Valley.
The seventeen rooms are relaxed and sophisticated, styled in leather, natural timber and marble. Classic rooms sit within The Manor House and Max House while deluxe rooms occupy the Cellar Cottage and Vineyard Cottage. All offer luxury linens, rain showers, nespresso machines and a range of beautiful views across manicured gardens, plum orchards, vineyards, Franschhoek village and the mountains beyond.
Dining at Leeu Estates takes place in The Dining Room on the slopes of the Dassenberg mountain. Here, long, leisurely meals and decadent high teas can be savoured in the airy conservatory with a fine South African vintage from the cellar. Guests are welcome to enjoy the dining experiences at Leeu Estates’ partner properties which include The Conservatory at Leeu House, Marigold in Heritage Square and the contemporary bar at Le Quartier Français. With 52 vineyards in the area, wine tasting is a must and for something a little fun you may like to visit Tuk Tuk – an innovative microbrewery creating fine craft beer.
Wandering the pretty Cape Dutch streets of Franschhoek is a lovely way to pass an afternoon and those looking to remain active will enjoy a walk along Franschhoek Pass, a mountain path worn away by centuries of elephant migration.
