Amankora Gangtey is located in the Phobjikha Valley, some 3,000m above sea level. The valley is part of the Black Mountains National Park, one of Bhutan’s most important wildlife sanctuaries.  Each winter it is home to a flock of 300 rare and endangered black-necked cranes which arrive from Tibet.

The eight-suite Amankora Gangtey has amazing views of the valley and towards the 16th centry Gangety Goemba, monastery. The suites and guest facilities are all under the one roof.  The living and dining room is combined and features comfortable chairs, sofas and family-style dining tables with views over the valley and surrounding mountains.  There is also a spa with two massage treatment rooms to retreat to for a touch of pampering.

The surrounding Black Mountains are mainly inhabited by shepherds and nomadic yak-herders. Numerous nature walks and treks are offered throughout the valley’s varied terrain. In winter, the reclusive black-necked cranes can be seen from the nearby Crane Centre or a viewing hide set near their main nesting and feeding grounds.
