Forest Lodge

Grootbos Reserve, South Africa

Floral eco-paradise

Nestled in the hills, 20 minutes east of Hermanus, Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is a real gem. Set in a 1750 hectare reserve, the Forest Lodge offers sweeping views across Walker Bay to Cape Point.

The elegant and stylish Forest Lodge is constructed of local sandstone. The main lodge is a modern contemporary design with a bright and airy interior that has floor to ceiling windows to take in the views. There are two large verandas, one overlooking the pool and the other providing an alfresco dining area. Carefully built amongst the trees are the 16 luxurious and tasteful suites. Each en suite suite has a bedroom and a separate lounge area. The bedroom is dominated by the large bed with ornamental mosquito nets draped from a wooden frame. From here you can lie back and take in the super views as the rooms have floor to ceiling sliding glass doors that open onto the private veranda with outside shower.

The experience here is built around the surrounding environment, the delicate fynbos ecosystem, the ancient Milkwood Forest and the local marine life. Grootbos offer guided walks and drives to explore the reserve and coastal areas with expert guides. At an extra cost, whale watching trips can be arranged to view Southern Right whales as they come into Walker Bay to calve between June to October.

Forest Lodge at Grootbos Reserve provides a wonderful wilderness experience on the doorstep of cosmopolitan Cape Town.
