Itinerary Inspiration - Peru's

Incan Empire

Scared Valley Cusco & Machu Picchu

A pocket of Peru's best

Start your journey in Lima, once South America’s richest country and hailed the ‘City of Kings’ by the Spanish conquistadors. Spend a day with your guide exploring the city’s highlights – a mix of colonial heritage, Latin passion and glamour with its fine museums, monuments, excellent cuisine and nightlife. Some of the places you may explore while in town include the Plaza de Armas, the Monasterio de San Francisco, the historic site of Huaca Pucllana, or the elegant and trendy neighbourhood of Barranco.

Make your way to the Sacred Valley, a beautiful stretch of small villages and ancient ruins spread across broad plains and rugged mountain slopes. Visit Moray’s amphitheatre-like terraces, the Inca salt mines of Maras, the fortress of Ollantaytambo, Pisac’s colourful markets and from here take the train to explore the UNESCO World Heritage site and citadel of Machu Picchu.

The final leg of your itinerary brings you to Peru’s most popular destination, Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire where you have three nights to explore the cobblestone streets, Inca Temples and colonial buildings. Some time spent here with a guide fits in nicely with learning about the local culture and history, then with some time at leisure to explore, for foodie adventures, to shop, people watch and more.

An exploration of the Sacred Valley and Cusco can easily be completed standalone or fits in nicely with more time spent in either Peru, or elsewhere in South America.
