Huka Lodge

Taupo, New Zealand

Natures Ultimate Playground

Huka Lodge has enjoyed a location of great natural beauty, on the banks of the mighty Waikato River, since it was founded as a simple fishing lodge in 1924. Nestling in a landscape of snow-capped peaks, lush forests and clear blue waterways, it defines absolute style while offering plenty of outdoor adventure.

Although the décor is contemporary, the lodge retains its heritage feel and has the atmosphere of a private country home. The communal areas are styled with antique furniture, curiosities from around the world, classical portraits and rich tartans while a croquet lawn, and tennis and pétanque courts keep active types entertained in between country pursuits. The rooms are simple yet comfortable with elegant, neutral décor, luxurious linens and oversized bath tubs. Bi-fold doors open on to a deck from which guests can enjoy river views and the soothing sound of rushing water.

Dining takes place in the cosy, deep blue dining room and menus change daily according to produce available. Expect innovative dishes by British head chef Paul Froggatt to include plenty of fresh local produce and be paired with delicious wines from the lodge’s cellar.

Activities are adventurous and wide ranging covering everything from trout fishing, biking and golf to jet boating and gliding.

Huka Lodge is a remote and idyllic escape where guests can truly indulge in the bliss of country living.
