Estancia El Boqueron

Mar del Plata, Argentina

Estancia Elegance

Estancia El Boquerón once belonged to the aristocratic Anchorena family. It has 100 acres of rolling parkland dotted with enormous trees and avenues of stunning shrubs and gardens planted many years ago. The main homestead, El Boquerón is a private holiday home for Jakob’s family, which is beautifully decorated by Jakob’s mother, Christl Von Plessen. Guests are accommodated at The Golf, a stunning stone cottage located not far from the main homestead.

As the name indicates, The Golf was originally designed to be the club house for the estate golf course.  It is located in a secluded area of the Estancia with sweeping lawns and beautiful views across the valley, over the polo field onto neighboring Estancias.

It has it’s own facilities including a library, pool, pool house, lounge area, large beautifully decorated rooms and gardens to relax in.   The Golf has its own compliment of charming Argentine staff, who ensure you are well fed and perfectly looked after. A stay at El Boquerón is private and exclusive and one feels privileged to be able to share this magnificent property with Jakob.

With the main focus being riding, the terrain lends itself perfectly to long canters over rolling hills and through golden wheat fields.  The thoroughbred crosses are beautifully cared for by the local farm gauchos who join you on all the rides.

Due to the terrain, the riding at El Boqueron can be  faster and more challenging than that of the mountain treks.  Those who feel the need to trigger their adrenaline can also take their horses over the cross country course that surrounds the property. There are 26 timber fences that take you on a route through eucalyptus lined avenues and around the beautiful parkland. In addition a circuit of 12 hedges around a 2 km course has been planted for use as a point-to-point course.  Lastly, for the polo enthusiasts, a polo pitch is available for those keen for afternoon chukkas.

The tack room  has a comfortable seating area around a log fire where one seems to spend many an hour sitting, chatting, relaxing and enjoying ‘Mate’ the traditional tea drunk throughout Argentina and South America.

A team of masseuses are available for those needing the attention. Otherwise, one can relax by the swimming pool, reading, and chatting over a Clericots, the Argentinean version of a Pimms.  For the more active, there is a tennis court, a putting green or croquet pitch.
