Rising grandly from a pink granite shelf at the edge of the Nubian Desert with views of Elephantine Island, the five star Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan hotel sits within a 19th-century Victorian palace and blends a stunningly beautiful setting with ancient heritage and the luxury of modern design.
The interiors were created by renowned designer Sybille de Margerie and incorporate original features, Moorish arches, ruby red chandeliers, plush Persian carpets, soft armchairs and hand-carved furnishings. In contrast the Nile Wing is a 21st century addition, designed to complement the original building. The 72 rooms and suites are a blend of modern and traditional styles and offer airy interiors, marble bathrooms and views over the Nile or the hotel’s tropical gardens.
Facilities includes a gym, spa with full hammam, indoor pool and a beautiful outdoor infinity pool which cascades into the sacred waters of the Nile. A number of restaurants offer a variety of cuisines including Mediterranean and Asian and the renowned 1902 restaurant, complete with a resplendent Arabian dome, serves an exquisite French menu paired with vintage wines. High tea on the terrace is also highly recommended.
Former guests include Sir Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie and Princess Diana and the glamour of days gone by is perfectly captured in the splendor of the hotel — a beautiful Aswan retreat.
