A sparkle in the gorilla's eye at Ngaga Odzala

Ngaga Lodge

Odzala-Kokoua National Park, Republic of Congo

Gorilla central

Set in the heart of the sparsely populated Congo Basin, Odzala-Kokoua National Park forms part of the second-largest tropical rainforest in the world. Ngaga Lodge is surrounded by dense Marantaceae forest, home to several groups of western lowland gorillas.

The lodge features six guest rooms tucked into a glade within pristine primary forest, positioned above the Ngaga Stream. Both the rooms and the central dining, lounge, and bar areas are built on raised decks at the crest of the glade, offering views into and above the rainforest canopy. Inspired by traditional B’Aka architecture, the lodge is constructed from natural materials that blend seamlessly into the forest surroundings. A star deck and fire pit complete the main communal area, while a separate deck is located at a natural swimming spot on the Ngaga Stream below.

The primary activity at Ngaga Lodge is tracking habituated western lowland gorillas on foot. These excursions are led by an expert guide and a skilled local tracker, who follow signs on the forest floor to locate the gorilla group chosen for the day. Birdwatching and night walks are also available, offering the chance to spot a variety of primates and some spectacular forest birdlife.

Ngaga Lodge offers the rare and unforgettable experience of observing one of our closest relatives in the wild, while exploring a thriving and biodiverse rainforest ecosystem.
