Amalinda Camp sits in a 300-acre private concession in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Matobo Hills, situated 45-kms from Bulawayo, tucked into an ancient Bushman’s shelter.
Amalinda consists of nine individually thatched rooms including a trio of suites, ideal for honeymooners, all of which are set into the imposing boulders. Each chalet at Camp Amalinda is individually designed and decorated, but all incorporate the surrounding rock. The bedrooms have large open windows with roll-down blinds. Polished concrete floors run throughout, dotted with various rugs and mats to give a softer touch. The beds are substantial and large mosquito nets come as standard. In some rooms, wooden storage units from a bygone era are found at the foot of the bed; in others a large ottoman takes its place. The main area is linked to the chalets by pathways. Guests can relax in the cavernous lounge where there is also a small library and impressive bar. Outside is a fireplace and courtyard area as well as a swimming pool.
The granite domes and castle kopjes of the Matobo Hills echo the essence of tranquility and the majesty of untamed Africa, where mammal and bird species are prolific. Included here are the highest concentrations of Leopard and Black Eagle in the world, as well as a healthy population of the endangered Black and White Rhino. Some of the most breathtaking granite scenery in the world is also found in the Matobo Hills. It is here that the hopes, trials and tribulations of the San Bushmen are recorded in the ancient rock art. Explore the region on foot and by vehicle.
