Sausage Tree Camp is nestled amongst massive winter thorns and Mahogany trees on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park. The beauty of the park lies in its state of wildness, a phenomenal setting of vast river channels with a shimmering escarpment rising in the north.
The camp offers 5 ‘Signature Tents’, two ‘Honeymoon Suites’ and the stunning ‘Kigelia House’. Each tent has its own personal Muchinda (butler) to attend to your every whim. The main areas of the lodge stretch along the river bank and the view from the glamorous infinity pool is stunning.
The wildlife is prolific, particularly during the winter months, with huge herds of elephant & buffalo, a range of plains game including zebra and wildebeest along with their predators – lion, leopard and wild dog. The birdlife too, is rich and rewarding with over 300 species including fish eagles, herons and kingfishers. Game drives are the most reliable and successful way to see a good variety of wildlife, both large and small, and walking is the perfect way to search for the smaller creatures as you begin to understand the intricate details of the ecosystem. Exploring the Zambezi River silently by canoe or boat provides close encounters with birds and wildlife and allows you to truly appreciate the huge hippo pods and crocodile populations. Whatever your chosen activity you will be led by professional guides & National Parks Wildlife Officers.
