Island luxury in the Delta
Little Vumbura is situated on a beautiful island in a private concession in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. The western parts of the concession consist of open, seasonally inundated floodplains and small palm islands, whereas the eastern parts offer a diverse mosaic of habitat types from permanent swamp, to seasonal floodplains and woodlands. This diversity supports a wide range of large mammals including healthy populations of elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe, and plenty of large predators. A variety of antelope species include rare red lechwe and sable, and the birdlife is colourful and abundant.
Little Vumbura is situated on a wooded island and designed to blend in with its surroundings. It offers six beautiful tented rooms shaded by the canopy of an ancient Okavango forest, each spacious and cool with an open-air shower and views of the surroundings. A plunge pool and reading area overlook the floodplains while a star deck is reached by a bridge from the dining area.
Surrounded by rivers and lagoons, the camp’s water-based activities are the focus, with mokoros (dug-out canoes) traversing the floodplains under the guidance of experienced polers, and motor boats navigating the permanent channels. This presents some silent, up-close encounters and superb photographic opportunities as wildlife comes to drink and bathe among the lilies. Game drives in open 4WD vehicles explore the savannah areas and guided bush walks around the islands are an opportunity to enjoy Africa from a different perspective. Wildlife viewing and birding is consistently good all year round.
